With over millions of users and billions of short URLs on the most popular URL shortening service known as Bit.ly, their converted short URLs are now becoming not much shorter than the domain name itself.

Wel.ly has simply started again. Enter your long URL and convert it to a short URL, where currently the shortest keyword is only two characters in length. The shorter the URL, the better the URL is for sharing on social networking websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz so you can put more characters into your status update messages.

Wel.ly also provides you with historical statistics so you can easily track how many clicks your short URL has been clicked on, the geographical location of the click, the referring website the click has come from and the browser type the end user is viewing from. You can make your profile visible to the public or keep private.

Currently the website only allows beta testers to register on the site for a profile; however Wel.ly is using its own API service for users to shorten long URLs on its own Facebook page and iPhone App.
