VaxNet

During my employment at Vax Ltd, a short side project was to help with communication issues within the company. I advised that the company would benefit from the tools and resources I could supply with releasing an internal intranet for all Vax employees.

Vax's internal design team produced several concepts and once the department managers agreed on the final design I structured, sliced and diced the Photoshop designs into a fully working local intranet which we branded 'VaxNet'.

VaxNet provided the company with:

  • Technical: Linux operating system server running Suse 10.3
  • Networking: Internal coverage of the server
  • Development:
  • Structured layout of department landing pages
  • Department resources to download files
  • Product catalogue including images, technical specifications, user guides, associated accessories and prices
  • Exploded diagrams of machine service sheets
  • Contact directory and self profile pages
  • Search facilities covering products, pages, resources and contacts
  • Internal surveys
  • Company news and events

Each employee had the option to sign up and log into VaxNet, allowing them to gain access to further resources available within the company. Departmental VaxNet Champions had higher access controls on the Administration Tools allowing them to monitor staff content and provide useful content pages and resources to their fellow team members.

As VaxNet is an internal intranet, screen captures are documented in my off-line portfolio.
